The Laser Refractive Center provides patients with
standard refractive procedures for the correction of nearsightedness,
farsightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism and offers emerging therapies
as they become available to patients. At the forefront of new discoveries,
the Center was one of the a few programs in the United States to
pioneer investigations into the new excimer laser and was among
the first to report using Intacs for specialized vision correction.

Specialized Services
Patients referred to the Center undergo a complete ocular examination
and testing to analyze corneal shape and identify conditions that
may interfere with surgical correction. Candidates for laser surgery
receive intensive education so that they understand the benefits,
risks and alternatives to surgery.
Additional Benefits
Clinical trials for new refractive devices and techniques are open
to patients on an ongoing basis. These include studies for the treatment
of myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia and keratoconus that are not readily
available in community-based laser refractive centers. The Center
also offers a repair clinic for patients suffering from complications
or side effects after a vision correction procedure.
