Salary
Residency appointments begin in July and are renewed annually for up to 36 consecutive months. Residents are paid according to an advancing scale. Current annual salary information can be found on the David Geffen School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education website:

Benefits and Privileges
As UCLA employees, UCLA Ophthalmology Residents enjoy the following benefits and privileges:

	Insurance covering medical, dental and vision care for residents and their immediate families (spouse and children only), life and disability insurance
	Four one-week vacations during each year of residency (only one week may be taken during each block)
	Portable computer, PDA, book fund, white coats and meal allocations while on-call during rotations at UCLA
	Attendance at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in either the second or third year of training
	Use of campus academic and recreational facilities
	Membership in UCLA Associated Students offering residents tickets for athletic events at student rates, in addition to other benefits

Residents are expected to provide their own transportation between medical centers and must participate in a payroll deduction for parking privileges at the Jules Stein Eye Institute.

Housing
Residents do not receive an allowance for housing. Information and assistance regarding housing in the Los Angeles area may be obtained from the UCLA Community Housing Office. The Housing Office requires confirmation of acceptance as a UCLA intern or resident before providing information.
