The Department of Ophthalmology conducts an accredited three-year residency
program. Seven residents begin training each July. The full breadth of
ophthalmology training is offered, including experience in general ophthalmology
and the ophthalmic subspecialties of cornea and external ocular disease,
glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, ophthalmic anesthesiology, orbital and ophthalmic
plastic surgery, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, retinal disease,
ophthalmic genetics, ophthalmic oncology, ophthalmic pathology and vision
science.
The ophthalmology residency curriculum is multifaceted, including
clinical rotations at five major medical centers, didactic education
in the classroom, surgery training and research experience. Certification
by the American Board of Ophthalmology is a natural objective of
the program.
