Businessman, philanthropist and community
leader Gerald H. Oppenheimer has distinguished himself through a lifetime of
commitment and caring. As President of the Oppenheimer Family Foundation,
he has been an ardent and generous supporter of many UCLA
programs, continuing a half-century family legacy. Of particular note
is the Stein/Oppenheimer Endowment Award program, established in 1990 to
provide seed money for worthwhile projects in the health sciences
at UCLA. He is a Trustee of the UCLA Foundation and a
board member of the University's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center on Aging
and the Board of Visitors at the David Geffen
School of Medicine at UCLA.
Mr Oppenheimer has been the recipient of many
awards celebrating his philanthropic and civic leadership. He has received
a Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Institute for
Cancer Research. He is also a recipient of the prestigious UCLA
University Service Award and the Dean's Special Award. Mr Oppenheimer's
contribution to children's eyecare was acknowledged with the 1999
Vision of Light Award, presented by the International Research Foundation
for Children's Eyecare, Inc., and the 2000 Tradition of Caring Award
from the Children's Bureau of Southern California. |
