As Chairman of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and Director
of the Jules Stein Eye Institute, Dr. Bartly J. Mondino is responsible
for leading the academic pursuits of the Institute's faculty and
trainees in a complex and challenging environment, while maintaining
the highest standards in research, teaching and patient care. Additionally,
he treats patients and pursues research interests in the field of
inflammatory and infectious eye diseases. He has published extensively
on autoimmune diseases of the external eye and contact-lens-related
corneal ulcers. Dr. Mondino serves as Executive Vice President of the
Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology and on the
Board of Directors for the Braille Institute.
After receiving his MD degree from Stanford University, Dr. Mondino
completed an ophthalmology residency at Cornell University-New York
Hospital and a fellowship in cornea-external disease at the University
of Pittsburgh, Eye and Ear Hospital. He remained there in a faculty
position until his recruitment to UCLA in 1982. He has held his
current position as Chairman of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology
and Director of the Jules Stein Eye Institute since 1994. |
