The Jules Stein Eye Institute originated with a concept for a comprehensive
center for vision science at UCLA, magnanimous philanthropy by Dr.
Jules and Mrs. Doris Stein, and endorsement by the University Regents.
Conceived in 1961, a dedicated physical facility for the Institute
became a reality in 1966. Progressive programs of eye research,
education and patient care have placed the Institute among the worlds
great centers for vision science.
Plans for an additional facility and imminent breakthroughs in
clinical and laboratory research, enabling new treatments for patients
during the 21st century, promise to elevate the Institute to the
next and higher level of achievement in eradicating blindness and
preserving vision.
