Your
gift to the Jules Stein Eye Institute is a gift of sight.
Every year, millions of people are diagnosed with debilitating
diseases of the eye. And every year, extraordinary breakthroughs
in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases are made
here at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. We accomplish our mission
to preserve sight and prevent blindness by extending the scientific
projects and humanistic programs that best serve the community
and contribute to the advancement of ophthalmology worldwide.

Gifts
of support to the Jules Stein Eye Institute may include:
The caliber and dedication of our faculty, students and staff are
but one contribution to the Institute's greatness. Other major contributions
come from our advances and outreach, and the ongoing commitment
of our many philanthropic friends. Your support of excellence in
vision science at UCLA today is an investment in sight for so many
now and in the future.
Gifts may be unrestricted in nature, or may be targeted to a particular
faculty member, program or purpose in the Institute. When you do
not restrict the use of your gift, the Institute gains flexibility
not otherwise available. Unrestricted gifts can be used at the discretion
of the director to meet changing or urgent needs such as top faculty
recruitment, state-of-the-art technology and equipment or new research
initiatives.

Outright Gifts

Gift
Pledges
A pledge is a formal statement of intention to make a gift to JSEI.
It may be followed by an immediate gift, or may simply confirm your
intention to make a gift in the future. Many donors choose to complete
their gift pledge by making regular payments over a period of time.
This method often allows donors to give more generously than they
may have originally considered. Whenever possible, full payment
of pledges is encouraged within five years of the original commitment.

closely held securities. When a donor makes a gift of these securities
to JSEI, the donor may enjoy tax savings and can even increase his
or her income from the donated stock.

Matching
Gifts
Many corporations have demonstrated their support for JSEI by matching,
or multiplying, their employees' gifts to the Institute, up to a
set amount. Before you make a gift, you may want to ask whether
your employer participates in such a program. Certain restrictions
apply to matching gifts; please consult your company's personnel
office.

Gifts
of Real Estate
When you give a gift of your home or real property to JSEI, you
may claim an income-tax charitable deduction based on the full market
value of the gift, avoid capital gains taxes, and eliminate certain
costs associated with the transfer of real property. Gifts of real
estate can also provide income to you.

Gifts-in-Kind
You may wish to give JSEI a personal possession of special interest.
The Institute receives a wide variety of gifts, including rare books
and manuscripts, works of art, equipment and other items.

However you choose to support JSEI, you will be embarking on a
partnership with one of the world's preeminent eye research institutes.
Your gift can make the difference in the work of a distinguished
faculty scholar, our new Wasserman research center, or one of JSEI's
cutting-edge research programs.
If you choose to restrict your gift further, to be used for research
on a specific disease for instance, please contact the JSEI Development
Office for suggested language.
